Maine Township Assessor Updates Residents on Latest Tax Bills

June 23, 2015 — The 2014 Second Installment Property Tax Bill, mailed the first week of July, will be due Monday, August 3, 2015, according to Susan Moylan Krey, Assessor of Maine Township. Krey says, "It is important that Maine Township residents check their second installment 2014 tax bill to ensure they are receiving all proper exemptions."

By law a person is allowed to collect an exemption only on the home that is his or her primary residence. Receiving erroneous exemptions on additional properties is illegal and now subject to interest and penalty fees. If you are getting an exemption you do not qualify for, you can come to the Maine Township Assessors Office, 1700 Ballard Rd., Park Ridge, by August 3, 2015, to fill out a Homeowner Exemption Waiver form for the 2014 property tax year. You will be billed for that exemption at a later time and will not be charged interest or penalties.

Residents that live in their property since January 1 of the tax year and use their property as their principal dwelling should check their tax bill to be certain that they received the property tax exemption they are entitled. If the exemption was not deducted from the bill, the township office will be able to help the taxpayer obtain a corrected bill.

The Maine Township Assessors Office is open Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 4:30 PM to serve residents and help answer questions. The Township building will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observance of Independence Day.
