Susan Moylan Krey Appointed Maine Township Assessor
May 28, 2014 — The Maine Township Board of Trustees voted at its meeting last night to appoint Trustee Susan Moylan Krey of Des Plaines as Assessor. Krey fills the vacancy left by the passing of Assessor Tom Rueckert who had served since first being elected in 1985.
"Susan brings a lot of Township and community experience to this position," said Maine Township Supervisor Carol A. Teschky. "She has held the Certified Illinois Assessing Officer (CIAO) designation since 2002 and has continued her professional education in recent years to stay current on the ever-changing tax and real estate situation."
First elected as Township Collector in 2005, Krey was appointed as Trustee when Teschky took over as Supervisor following the retirement of Bob Dudycz in 2007. She was elected as Trustee in 2009 and 2013 when the Republican slate swept the elections against the Democrats.
She chaired the Township's Award-winning National Night Out Against Crime from 2005 through 2013. She also headed up the Neighborhood Watch program from 2005 through 2014. During that time, she established the Sgt. Karen Lader Memorial Good Citizens Award in honor of Sgt. Lader of the Cook County Sheriff's police who worked closely with Krey on the Neighborhood Watch.
Krey was appointed to the Des Plaines Library Board as Trustee in 2009 and served through 2013 including three years as Vice President. She also served as a Commissioner on the Illinois Civil Service Commission since 2012.
She is married to Kevin and has lived in Des Plaines since 1977. She has three children, two step daughters, and 13 grandchildren.
