Property Tax Appeal Seminar Announced by Maine Township Assessor

August 27, 2014 — Maine Township Assessor Susan Moylan Krey announces that Cook County Board of Review Commissioner Dan Patlak will be holding a property tax assessment appeal seminar Monday, Sept. 15 at the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood St., Des Plaines, for taxpayers seeking to appeal their 2014 property tax assessments.

The event starts at 6:30 PM and is free to the public. There is no fee to appeal at the Board of Review. Taxpayers are asked to bring a copy of their most recent tax bill to the seminar. The seminar is co-hosted by Krey, State Representative Michael McAuliffe and Cook County Commissioner Peter Silvestri.

"The seminar is presented in order to help educate taxpayers on how to file a successful tax appeal, provide information on property tax exemptions, and address why property taxes go up when the value of your home goes down," Krey states.

The seminar includes a presentation by Patlak explaining the appeal procedure at the Board of Review. Before the end of the evening, taxpayers will have an opportunity to work with staff from the Board of Review to address their specific questions and concerns. For questions regarding your property taxes, Maine Township residents may also visit the Assessor's Office at Maine Township Town Hall, 1700 Ballard Rd, Park Ridge, during business hours Monday-Friday. Calls are taken at 847-297-2510.

Appeal forms also may be picked up at the Board of Review located at 118 N. Clark Street-Room 601 in Chicago or at the Skokie Satellite Office located at 5600 Old Orchard Rd., Room 155, Skokie (847-470-7522). Taxpayers may also file an appeal online by visiting the Board of Review website at www.cookcountyboardofreview.com.
